Welcome and Introduction
Hi there! I’m Soon W. Naquin, and I am so incredibly happy you’ve found your way into my kitchen. If you’ve ever stood in front of an open refrigerator at 6:00 PM, exhausted from a long day and wondering how you’re going to get a decent meal on the table without spending a fortune or two hours of your life, then you are exactly where you belong.
Based right here in the heart of Dayton, Ohio, this website is my way of sharing the joy of practical, delicious, and stress-free home cooking. I know what it’s like to balance a hectic schedule while still wanting to eat well. My goal is to show you that you don’t need a culinary degree or a pantry full of obscure ingredients to create something spectacular. Whether you’re a busy professional, a parent juggling a million things, or someone who just wants to spend less time cleaning up and more time enjoying their food, I’m here to help you master the art of easy recipes that never compromise on flavor.

My Cooking Journey
My path to becoming a home cook wasn’t paved with fancy cooking schools or family secrets passed down through generations. In fact, it started out of a very relatable necessity: I was tired of being “food-rich and cash-poor.” Back when I first started out, I lived for the weekends when I could treat myself to my favorite restaurant meals. But as the costs of dining out and delivery started to climb, I realized that my budget—and my health—couldn’t keep up with my cravings.
I remember sitting in a local bistro one evening, looking at a plate of pasta that cost me twenty dollars plus tip, and thinking, “I bet I could make this myself.” That spark of curiosity changed everything. I went home and started experimenting. My first few attempts were, admittedly, a bit of a disaster. There were burnt sauces, overcooked noodles, and more than a few “cereal for dinner” nights. But I was determined to recreate those restaurant-quality flavors at home for a fraction of the price.
Living in Dayton, I found inspiration in our local food scene and the wonderful fresh produce available in the Midwest. I began deconstructing the dishes I loved, figuring out how to achieve that perfect sear or that rich, savory depth without needing a commercial kitchen. I learned that the secret wasn’t complexity—it was technique and timing. As I got better, I realized that I wasn’t just saving money; I was eating better than I ever had before. I was in control of the ingredients, the salt, and the quality, which naturally led me to develop a collection of healthy recipes that actually satisfied my soul.
Why I Created This Website
The idea for this site was born from a conversation with a friend who told me she “didn’t have the time” to cook healthy meals. She was living on frozen burritos and takeout because the thought of following a complex recipe after a ten-hour workday felt like another chore. It broke my heart because I knew that cooking could be a form of self-care, not just another item on a to-do list.
I started this website because I wanted to bridge the gap between “fast food” and “fancy food.” I wanted to create a space where easy recipes weren’t just simple—they were exciting. I wanted to prove that you can have a “restaurant night” on a Tuesday without the stress. This site is for everyone who feels intimidated by the kitchen or overwhelmed by the sheer number of steps in traditional cookbooks. I’ve done the trial and error for you, trimming away the unnecessary fluff to leave you with straightforward, reliable, and mouth-watering results.
My Mission and Values
At the core of everything I do is a simple mission: to empower you to feel confident and capable in your own kitchen, no matter how busy your life is. I believe that food is the universal language of love and connection, and being able to feed yourself and your family well is a foundational skill that everyone deserves to master.
My values are rooted in:
- Accessibility: Ingredients should be easy to find at your local grocery store. No specialized trips required.
- Efficiency: Time is our most precious resource. My recipes focus on high impact with minimal effort.
- Authenticity: I only share what I actually cook and eat in my own home. If it’s not good enough for my table, it’s not going on yours.
- Wellness: I believe in balance. You’ll find plenty of healthy recipes here, but also the occasional comfort food because life is too short to skip the cheese.
What Makes These Recipes Different
You might be wondering, “Soon, there are millions of recipes online—what makes yours different?” It’s a fair question! The difference lies in the real-world testing. Many recipes you find online are developed in professional test kitchens with assistants and industrial dishwashers. Mine are developed in my kitchen in Dayton, with one stove, a modest set of pans, and a very real limit on how many dishes I want to wash at the end of the night.
When I say a recipe is “quick,” I mean it. I account for the chopping, the prep, and the cleanup. I look for shortcuts that don’t sacrifice taste—like using the right spices to mimic a slow-simmered sauce or finding the perfect one-pot method for a creamy pasta. My easy recipes are designed to be foolproof. I provide clear instructions and tips on how to swap ingredients based on what you have in your pantry, because I know that a missing onion shouldn’t ruin your dinner plans.
My Commitment to Quality
Trust is the most important ingredient in any recipe. When you choose to spend your time and money on a meal I’ve suggested, I take that responsibility seriously. Every single post on this site has been tested multiple times to ensure consistency. I want you to feel a sense of “I’ve got this” the moment you start cooking.
I am also committed to providing healthy recipes that are transparent and honest. To me, “healthy” doesn’t mean restrictive or bland; it means nourishing your body with real, whole foods that keep you energized. I prioritize fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and smart grains, but I also make sure every dish is seasoned to perfection. Quality means that the food looks as good as it tastes and leaves you feeling better than when you started.
Connecting With You
The absolute best part of this journey is hearing from you. Nothing makes my day more than receiving a photo of a dish you’ve made or a message saying that your picky toddler actually finished their dinner. I don’t want this to be a one-way street; I want us to be a community of home cooks supporting one another.
Whether you’re looking for a 15-minute breakfast, a meal-prep lunch, or a dinner that will impress your guests without stressing you out, I am here to guide you. I love hearing your feedback, your tweaks, and your success stories. Cooking is a journey, and we’re all learning and growing together.
